Residents demand action

Local Green Councillor Caroline Russell has persuaded the council to send a surveyor to Park View estate, after residents demonstrated against their continued inaction. Leaks from walkways and around rain-water pipes are making bedrooms in some flats uninhabitable.

The residents had presented a petition to the council in December, calling for it to fix the long-term damp in their homes. Caroline said “So far Islington’s response has been disappointing. It’s great that they’re building some new flats at Park View but they need to fix problems with the existing ones too. At least now their surveyor will see the scale of the trouble.”

Green Party campaigners support residents’ call to be heard Benali Hamdache, Cllr Caroline Russell and Ernestas Jegorovas Is this really getting more Islington people active or just a cash cow? New facility is expensive and unaffordable Green Party campaigner Ernestas Jegorovas joined the protest on the estate and added “The residents are right to be angry. For years the council has been implementing quick repairs that don’t solve the damp, rather than dealing with the structural issues actually causing it.”
