The Green Party is celebrating in Islington as it was announced they received almost 20 per cent of votes in the EU poll.
This was part of a big night for the Greens, as they held onto their Green MEP seat in London, with Scott Ainslie taking over from Jean Lambert after 20 years representing the capital. The Greens also more than doubled their MEPs nationally, as well as making significant gains across Europe.
Caroline Russell, Green Party councillor for Highbury East said: “The results in Islington show voters responding to our clear message about staying in Europe to work together with our EU neighbours to tackle the big challenges like climate breakdown and social injustice.
"It also shows that the people of Islington have voted overwhelmingly for parties that want to ‘remain’."
