While Islington may not have a Green councilor anymore, the work of Katie Dawson lives on in the opening of the Bright Sparks Shop in Islington.
The initiative, funded by the council and run by social enterprise Digibridge with London Community Resource Network, is thought to be the first of its kind in London as a team of recyclers, trainees and volunteers take unwanted or broken electrical items and bring them back to use.
Katie says “this workshop offers the kind of solutions to our everyday problems the Green Party is championing. We can reduce our landfill and give much needed training and support to Islington residents. I am proud to see the shop open at last.”
The Bright Sparks Shop is at 225-229 Seven Sisters Road, London N4 2DA. It is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 12.30pm to 5.30pm, and until 7pm on Thursdays.??To contact the shop call 020 7561 5515 or email shop@brightsparksonline.com. For more information see www.islington.gov.uk/brightsparks.
