Islington Green Party are supporting Highbury residents in the fight to prevent developers building on the extensive gardens at the National Children’s Home site by demonstrating outside Islington Town Hall on 7th September at 7.00pm. The final planning decision will be taken on Tuesday night by the new centralised Planning Committee, following submission of revised plans for the site responding to resident and Islington Green Party demands.
We are objecting to the current proposals because the development is not in accordance with the planning brief for the site which requires that “the mature gardens are preserved in their entirety”. Islington Green Party Campaigns Co-ordinator and Highbury resident Caroline Russell said "The Secret Garden is irreplaceable and makes a huge contribution to biodiversity in Islington. The gardens and grassland must be preserved for the benefit of future generations.”
