Greens beat Tories in St Mary’s

Islington Greens were delighted to increase their share of the vote and beat the Tories into third place at the by-election in St Mary’s on Thursday.

Candidate, Caroline Russell said "It was a pleasure to meet so many residents during the campaign and to hear about the issues that concern people locally.  Our policies were well received on the doorstep, which is reflected in the result where we increased our share of the vote by 25% and came third, pushing the Tories into fourth place.  I’d like to thank everyone who spared the time to talk to us on the doorstep and particularly those who voted Green."

"More and more people are recognising the Green Party as the only party determined to close the gap between rich and poor.  The decreased vote for both Lib Dems and Tories shows that people are rejecting the coalition government and the cuts and see us as a real alternative on issues like tuition fees and the creeping privatisation of the NHS, both policies introduced by Labour."
