Public Meeting on London’s housing crisis – Natalie Bennett speaks in Highbury tonight

The Leader of the Green Party, Natalie Bennett, will present the Green Party’s vision for housing in London, at a public meeting in Highbury this evening.

The meeting will be held on Monday April 14th from 8pm at Sotheby Mews Day Centre, Sotheby Road, N5 2UT.

Islington is suffering an acute housing crisis.

  • Essential workers, such as teachers and nurses, are being forced out due to the cost of housing
  • The working and disabled poor are being unfairly penalised with the bedroom tax
  • Private rents are out of control and even those who are asset rich through owning their own homes also don’t escape the London housing crisis as many have children staying with them in their 20s and 30s as they are unable to find affordable accommodation to move into
  • Housing in London is completely unbalanced and unregulated
  • Londoners are exposed without any protection to the whims of the financial market investors

It doesn’t have to be this way. The Green Party has many ideas for solutions to these problems, including:

  • regulation of the private rental sector
  • land value tax to provide finance to increase the supply of truly affordable homes
  • housing co-operatives
  • more council homes

We very much hope you can attend and join in the discussion.
