Sotheby Mews and Social Housing

After deciding, without consultation or warning, to close Sotheby Mews Day Centre, destroying the community built up over many years in this vital community centre, Islington Council moved to justify their actions by proposing to build much-needed social housing on the site.

Islington Green Party welcomes new social housing, but rejects the idea that this must bring about the destruction of a vibrant community centre.  Councillor Caroline Russell, who is working with the pensioners to defend their services, suggested that sheltered housing could be built alongside a new community centre.  This would provide new homes for older people for social rent, freeing homes on other Islington estates and protecting these vital services.

We will be campaigning to help the voices of the pensioners at Sotheby Mews be heard.  Please get involved, by contacting your local councillor to make your views known, or join our work here and follow our news as the campaign develops. @IslingtonGreenParty  #SaveSotheby
