For Islington Greens, this election was packed full of highs, lows and for us, tremendous successes and our thanks go to all those that voted and supported us during our campaign.
Yesterday’s results show that the number of people voting for us increased by 50% on the 2006 elections. Our campaign and Katie’s hard work for the past four years has obviously had an impact and more people are turning to the Green Party.
Though Katie lost her council seat, she doubled her vote and that was thanks to a growing and involved membership and to Islington residents who asked for posters, spoke to neighbours and contributed to the campaign.
Nearly two thirds of our membership got involved in remarkable ways over the course of the election campaign. Whether it was leafleting, canvassing or standing as a candidate, Islington Green Party members stood up to fight for fairness and to turn Islington green.
This was an historic election, where Islington members helped the campaign to elect Caroline as MP for Brighton Pavilion. We are certain that Britain will see the positive impact that Greens can have at Westminster and we will continue to campaign on the issues that matter to our borough. Katie Dawson made a huge difference during her four year term as councillor and we can’t wait to get back into Islington Town Hall.
If you would like to be a part of our strong, growing party and you want to fight for fairness, come along and get involved.
