Born and raised in North London, I moved to Islington in 2001 to be nearer to the Arsenal as my partner is a third-generation Gooner.

I’m a retired social worker who worked for several different London boroughs.  Member of the Green Party since it was called the Ecology Party, exasperated by the media’s reporting of the Green Party as being only interested in the narrowest aspect of the environment, and rarely covering the party’s social justice policies. I’m active locally as a volunteer with Islington Healthwatch and Islington Friends of Parks Forum.

Dr Jara Falkenburg

Jara Falkenburg

Jara (“Yara”) is standing as Councillor for Laycock.  She is a 1st-generation immigrant of mixed Euro-Asian ethnicity, with strong environmentalist and socialist values. She has called England her home for the past 17 years and is a proud Islingtonian. Jara is passionate about our NHS, where she works hard to improve people’s health and wellbeing as Senior Clinical Psychologist for a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service.

Jara is running for Councillor because she wants to fight for everyone’s right to a healthy, fulfilling, and meaningful life without struggling to make ends meet or battling to access the right support, education, or green spaces. During her work as psychologist, she has seen the important role that people’s communities and environments play in their wellbeing, and wants to use her skills and experience to improve yours.

After a few years in the charitable sector before qualifying, Jara has worked for the NHS for 8 years across child, adult, learning disability, health, and forensic services. She has experience of leading projects, organising teams, and supervising colleagues in high-pressured environments to improve existing services and develop new ones. Jara is practiced at collaborating with people with different ages, needs, priorities, and backgrounds, and across competing services.  She works hard to empower those voices often less heard, including those from ethnic minority, LGBTQ+, neurodiverse, and disabled groups.

Jara is proud to bring these values and skills to our work to protect our climate and local community under the Green Party.

Hey I’m Nathan and I’m one of your Green candidates for Laycock. I’m 27 (33 years younger than the average age of a councillor), from Gloucestershire and have worked in the charity sector most of my life. I’m currently part of the campaign to legalise assisted dying in the UK.

I only moved to London just before the pandemic started, but I’ve loved the amount of green spaces here and Islington can be such a lovely place to cycle around. I would love to be part of the group working to make Islington the best place in London.

I only joined the party last year to help campaign for the mayoral elections, but now I volunteer most weekends – it’s been a great experience to help the party in any way I can!
