Islington voters need more opportunities to vote Green. I have been a Green Party member for several decades even though, in the early days, it was rarely possible to vote for a Green candidate, at local or national level.

Only the Green Party has the right joined-up policies to address the existential climate crisis which the whole world is facing. I believe that we should strive for a more equal Society where Community supports the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people such that they become no longer vulnerable and disadvantaged.

As a Green Party Councillor, I would work hard to achieve a fairer, more equal, and cleaner Islington.

On a personal level, I was born a Londoner and have lived in Islington for three years, having moved here from Camden. I am married with two grown-up sons and three grandchildren. I worked in the computer industry until retirement and my hobbies include restoring furniture, cycling for pleasure and exercise, supporting Harlequins Rugby, and studying French and Italian.

I am active in the local community, campaigning for a more Liveable Barnsbury, where the streets are safe and pleasant places to walk, cycle, meet friends and neighbours and to socialise.

Carmela Bromhead Jones

Carmela joined the Green Party in 2016 feeling that the local political situation was unrepresentative and thus unresponsive and needed an injection of other voices.

Born a Londoner, she has lived in Barnsbury ward for 13 years.  After a career in travel and then as a Probation and Family Court Welfare Officer and latterly in family mediation, Carmela has enjoyed her retirement in a number of ways: as a linguist and traveller, through higher education, pursuing her passion for gardens and their history, working an allotment and involving herself locally and nationally in voluntary initiatives that reflect her interests in the environment and landscapes and in supporting vulnerable young immigrants.
