Islington Greens call on Islington Council to ban disposable BBQs on Highbury Fields.
People who often do not have gardens use the green space of the Fields for barbeques, especially in the summer. The Council has recently finished a consultation with local residents on the impact this has had in terms of noise and environmental pollution.
But Islington Greens want to protest the use of disposable barbeques on Highbury Fields – and to follow the lead of other London councils who have outlawed them.
Highbury East’s Green representative Cllr Caroline Russell says:-
“I’m very surprised that disposable barbecues are allowed under the byelaw. These produce the worst smoke pollution and other other councils like Hackney have already banned them.”
Islington Greens will be monitoring the result of the consultation process closely.
