Islington Green Party supports a range of measures to clean up our air and enable walking and cycling.
All Green Party council candidates and any Green Party councillors, elected on 3rd May, pledge to support community-led initiatives to improve our streets and make them inclusive, safe and convenient for walking and cycling.

To respond to the specific Sustrans Streets for People pledge:
1. Create three neighbourhoods free of through traffic
Elected Green Party councillors would love to see at least three Liveable Neighbourhood schemes in Islington.
2. Create at least two schemes that that connect places people need to go with protected space for cycling on busy roads
Elected Green Party councillors will fully support protected bike lanes, and where physical protection cannot be squeezed in, then protection should be supplied with extra time at traffic signals.
3. Ensure redesigned streets are easy to walk through, safe to cross and truly accessible to all
Elected Green Party councillors will fully support an inclusive Healthy Streets approach to street design. It is essential that people can cross the road conveniently where they need to cross.
4. Create places people want to be, by increasing pavement space and introducing seating, shade and shelter – bringing streets back to life
Elected Green Party councillors will fully support people-friendly streets to enable people aged from 3 to 103 to get around conveniently and safely on foot or by bike. Features such as plants, benches, seating, wide pavements and protected space for cycling can make our streets more pleasant and inclusive.
