Clerkenwell
Janet Gormley

I am a Clerkenwell resident living in a council leasehold flat. There is a large council estate population in Islington which I want to represent more fully. It is especially important that local people feel their vote counts and that everyone does exercise their democratic right to vote.
So why am I running for the Green Party. As a keen gardener I want to engage others locally to develop and extend our green spaces. Alternative sources of energy are so important right now. Recent developments in solar panelling include capturing not just sun, but daylight; great news for Londoners.
The London council benefits from proportional representation. Let’s campaign for this nationally. Clerkenwell is culturally diverse, an advantage, so let’s work locally and collaborate inclusively to restore our democratic vitality and cultural confidence: let’s make post-pandemic plans.
My job has been as a secondary school teacher in the State sector where I have been privileged to witness developmental breakthroughs in my students’ learning that continue to inspire me. We have experienced and learned from the toughness of the past two years: let’s apply what we have gained. What do I value most: collaborative work within the local community.
Cecilie Hestbaek

Born and raised in Denmark, I moved to London in 2012 and have first lived and later worked in Islington since 2014.
With a background in trade unionism and climate activism, I joined the Green Party shortly after moving to the UK, and have enjoyed being part of Islington Greens. During the week I lead global charity Elrha’s Humanitarian Innovation Fund (HIF) programme, which supports responsible and impactful humanitarian innovation. In my spare time, I sit on the board of campaigning organisation Sheila McKechnie and enjoy getting involved in local volunteering, including at a vaccine centre and as host for refugees.
I am passionate about global social and climate justice and a committed LGBTQIA+ ally.
