Nikita is a PhD Student at UCL. She has over 7 years of experience working in bioinformatics, looking at genetics and the genome. She grew up in Canada before coming to the UK.
Nikita is standing to give every voter the chance to vote for a progressive environmentalist party. Islington Council urgently needs more Greens to hold the council to account and ensure that it’s delivering on it’s promises.
William English

I was born in Leicester. Loughborough Art School. London Film School. Co-founded with partner Sandra Cross, the Dining Room, a vegetarian organic restaurant in Borough Market, London from 1980 to 1990. I make experimental films; notably Heated Gloves 2015, a portrait of Captain Maurice Seddon; pioneer of electrically heated clothing (“if you can’t heat the room, heat yourself”). Since 2005 I have presented Wavelength a weekly radio programme of multiple agendas on Resonance 104.4fm, London’s first radio arts station. Bookseller at Marcus Campbell Art Books.
Claire Poyner

I have lived in Holloway – on the same estate (now called ‘Hyde Village’) for 28 years and in Islington Borough for 38 years. I live with my partner Jon.
I work for various peace organisations, all within the borough. I’ve twice been a school governor at primary schools in Islington, so education is definitely one of my areas of concern. I am not in favour of private companies taking over our schools, just as I am opposed to privatisation of the NHS.
For me, the most important issues for the council to work on are housing, road safety, traffic and environment. There is a dire need of social housing – we don’t need any more ‘luxury’ flats. I’d avoid the use of the phrase; ‘affordable housing’. All housing is affordable to someone. It’s important to protect our green spaces. We do need more housing but not at the expense of green spaces, and particularly, trees, and I would oppose building new housing which necessitates chopping down trees if those properties were for sale and not rent.
I’d like to see new housing developments which are car-free, with better bike parking, and to see more electric car clubs in Islington.
