In 2016, Islington Council moved to adopt anonymous CVs across its infrastructure, led by campaigners from Islington Green Party. Benali Hamdache, candidate for Islington South and Finsbury, who campaigned on anonymous CVs in Islington, said:
“Too many people find it more difficult to find a job because of their ethnicity. Countless research has shown that candidates with names perceived as “foreign” are far less likely to be invited to interview, even when they have equivalent qualifications to other candidates.”
“Anonymous CVs are about breaking that cycle. Taking names off job applications mean that Mohammed gets the same chance to be interviewed as Edward. The Green Party are committed to ensuring anonymous CVs become a recruitment standard.”
