Islington Green Party is deeply disappointed that Action for Children has received planning permission for their site at 85 Highbury Park. While we welcome the increase in the much needed affordable housing on the site, we think it sets a dangerous precedent with regard to safeguarding green space and the failure to adhere to the planning brief.
We will be monitoring the situation as the development progresses to ensure that promises are kept, especially in relation to the measures in place for ensuring biodiversity, maintaining proposed green roofs and the access for local people through the new green space.
In particular, we will be ensuring that the transplantation of a small area of the grassland does occur and will be closely monitoring the viability of this, over which we have profound concerns.
